Johannes,

The more I read on here the stranger things get, why do contractors buy that crap?

I'll stick to my same philosophy, find one honest manufacturer, use their products in the correct way, don't practice on site chemistry and you won't have all these problems.

Terry,

The QuickDry Sealer is actually from Bona (nothing "backyard chemistry" about that). It is used to provide a good seal without the grainraise that H2O sealer creates. It provides a amber colored appearance simulating a light OMU color (which is what a lot of customers prefer.
It gets often used as a sealcoat under their H2O finish or OMU and is a recommended product.

As an alternative a Neutral colored stain is an option also.

I see Sam's lips moving but all I hear is Charlie's voice.

Just yanking your chain, Sam. I'm glad you have a supplier and product combination that works well for you.

Don't be too enthused with Poloplaz. Every time I mention it, someone takes a jab at me. Their loss. ha,ha

Johannes,

Your missing the point, I didn't say that this problem was a result of all of those thing being wrong. Bona don't fit all my criteria so wouldn't be considered on other grounds.

To me it is astonishing that OMU in any form is still used and the fact than Bona do so is even worse. I am fully aware of the advantages of non wb sealers but shellac and alcohol based sealers both do fine jobs of colour enhancement and stopping grainraise. They are also very reliable in cold damp climates (Google cold and damp and you get straight on to the Irish Tourist Board website) with there being very little difference in the drying time.

Terry,

In the US OMU is still a very important part of floor finishing. I would estimate that it still makes up for at least 60 % of the finish share for site finished hardwood flooring. Waterborne is slowly making grounds though.

It will not go away anytime soon.
